Science and evidence-based policy making are under attack here in Newcastle and Australia at large. In response to this, the Tom Farrell Institute assisted in hosting a Newcastle Forum for Science, as part of the global March for Science movement. The event included engaging speed talks, followed by a forum on how to better support science in Newcastle.
The March for Science celebrates the public discovery, distribution, and understanding of scientific knowledge as crucial to the freedom, success, health, and safety of life on this planet. We fear this is under threat from governments and policy makers who embrace 'alternative facts' and 'post-truth' public policy.
The Newcastle Science Forum is a nonpartisan group, marching to demand action in the following areas: Science Funding, Science Communication, Science Policy, and Science Literacy.

The Newcastle event was a chance for members of the Newcastle scientific community, their collaborators and friends to discuss these issues.
